Jonathan Edwards was born in 1703, raised in Connecticut, did well with schooling, then entered the Yale College at the age of thirteen. Before Yale, he masted many languages, including Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. He graduated Yale at the age of 17. Edwards graduated at the top of his class in only four years. He began a 2 year course of theology in New Haven. After College he was converted to Jesus Christ. He then became a pastor in a Presbyterian church in New York, but only stayed a short while. Then, he became a tutor at Yale in 1724 for two years. From 1725 he served as an assist to his grandfather, Solomon Stoddard. When his grandfather died, he succeeded him as the pastor to the the Congregationalist pastor of Northampton, Massachusetts. Now that you know a little about our friend Jonathan Edwards, here is a little about the creators of this awesome web page. Ryan Wood and Joe Czerniak decided one fine day to let people know more about a great puritan. We go to West Bend East Highschool. We are both Juniors. American Lit. teachers encouraged and gave us great hope in creating this web page.

Historical Influences
|
The major historical influence for Edwards was following in his grandfather's footsteps. For years Jonathan was Solomon's pupil. Solomon's, his grandfather's, death had a major affect on Jonathan's feelings. When his grandfather died, Edwards knew what he wanted to do. He followed behind his grandfather, and became a theologian. He wrote many sermons, which many people think caused "The Great Awakening" which influenced many people to convert to Christianity.
